I finally got around to cleaning up the greenhouse a few weeks ago. I put all of my gardening supplies away neatly on their shelves.

Once everything was organized, I saw that I had a little extra empty space, so I created a little "office" area in the greenhouse for the summer.

This was really just an excuse to get some things out of my house & store them in the greenhouse for a bit! I primarily work inside my house but having a little space to store items is excellent.

I had this little table in the basement that James & I never finished. It has leaves on either side, but it's perfect in the greenhouse. I still want to stain the tabletop, but it will work now. It's a great size & height for working on my laptop.

Another item I love is the old lantern. I got it from my friends' parents' yard sale & it's one of my favorite things. It's such a beautiful display piece! You all know I'm a massive fan of anything old & rustic & the lantern is so beautiful & authentic.

I thought a super snowy day would be the perfect time to write about seed starting!  Haha!

Seed starting is one of my favorite things.  This will be my 3rd year starting plants from seeds & I just love it.  I began my seed starting journey in 2020 when the world shut down just for something to keep me busy.  I ended up loving it so much that I have been seed starting every year since!

I'll do another post with my favorite seed starting supplies, but I want to talk today about where I'll be seed starting.

I really wanted to start seeds in the greenhouse this year.  The greenhouse still needs some finishing touches to make it ready for plants.  A big thing is insulation.  It is a drafty nightmare right now!  

Another thing the greenhouse needs is electricity.  I really want to run electric through the entire greenhouse so I can use a heater, grow lights & heating mats.

Picking the stain color for the greenhouse was quite the task!  Because the greenhouse was made with untreated wood, it needed to be stained. 

It took me a long time to decide the stain color...& I'm technically still deciding.  Let me explain...

I really wanted to paint the greenhouse green but I wasn't sure how well that would vibe with the rest of the buildings on our property.  Our house is stained super dark but it's not really a color I want every other outdoor structure to be.

After going back and forth for what seems like forever, I finally went to the paint store to get more ideas.  At the time, I was thinking of just putting a natural color type of stain on the greenhouse & repainting it next year.

I went over what I wanted at the paint store & mentioned I wanted a super light stain.  They happened to have a gallon of white stain that someone didn't end up using & I thought it would work great for the greenhouse.

I think one of my favorite things about having the greenhouse is that I can decorate it for the seasons.

This fall is the first real season I could decorate the greenhouse.  I tried to keep it super simple by using items I already had.

I got the planters on super clearance from Wal-Mart in late summer & I love them.  I was so happy that I didn't have to wait until next year to use them.

The mums were also a great price from Wegmans.  I usually have a difficult time keeping mums alive but they are thriving this year.  At the end of the season I'm going to try to plant the mums in the ground to see if they come back next year.  We're not in the correct planting zone to make mums perennials but I'm going to try!

I've got some exciting news from my little green corner of the world – our greenhouse finally has a roof, and it's absolutely fabulous! 🌱🏠

Choosing the Perfect Tin Roof for Our Greenhouse Dream

After much pondering, we decided on a tin roof for our beloved greenhouse. Why tin, you ask? Well, let me share a couple of reasons that sealed the deal for us:

1. The Classic Silver Look: There's something timeless about a plain silver roof, don't you think? While traditional metal roofing offers a rainbow of colors, tin's singular shade was just the classic touch we were looking for.
2. Budget-Friendly Roofing: All about savvy spending, we found that tin roofing was more wallet-friendly compared to metal or shingles. We wrapped up the entire project under $300, screws included! Talk about a bargain! 💸
3. Local and Convenient: Living close to a metal roofing manufacturer was the cherry on top. No long hauls for supplies, which was a huge relief!

The Installation Adventure

Now, you know we're all about DIY, but we called in the pros for this project. Metal roofing was a bit out of our DIY league, and let's not get started on my hubby's feelings about heights (especially with this surprisingly high roof!).

We hired a local expert, who, after a quick measurement session, had us all set for the install day. And guess what? My husband lent a helping hand, and together, they had our greenhouse crowned beautifully in just a few hours!

Almost There: Our Greenhouse Journey

We're still dotting the i's and crossing the t's on our greenhouse, but having a roof over it has me doing my happy dance. It's no longer just a structure; it's a haven in the making!

We added a porch to the greenhouse over the weekend!

Since the greenhouse is a little higher out of the ground, we knew we were going to have to at least add a step to get in.  I suggested a porch that went along the entire front of the greenhouse.  After going through our inventory, we luckily had enough lumber left over to build a full porch.

It's just a small porch but I was surprised how quickly it all came together.

I’ve been obsessed with greenhouses lately.

Because of our current yard regrading situation, it’s been impossible to build/plant anything on our property this year.  I was hesitant to even do a garden this year because I have no idea if it’s going to be in the way of the regrading.

But…next year, I want a greenhouse!  I really just want a permanent designated area for the garden.  I want to be able to purchase perennial plants & not have to worry about digging them up again.  I think a little greenhouse would be so cute though!

After seeing Liz Marie’s greenhouse & plant setup, I know that’s along the lines of what I want to do as well.  And because I have almost a year to plan this entire thing out, I even made a Pinterest board dedicated to everything greenhouses!

I can’t wait to actually use our yard next year!
