how to propagate mint from cuttings | on the creek blog // www.onthecreekblog.com

Growing mint has many benefits. First and foremost, mint is a versatile herb used in various dishes and drinks, adding a refreshing and unique flavor. Additionally, mint has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties, such as aiding digestion and relieving headaches.

Growing mint is relatively easy, as it can thrive in various soil types and doesn't require much maintenance. However, it is essential to note that mint can be invasive, so it's important to plant it in a container or in a designated area of your garden to prevent it from taking over other plants. Growing mint is a rewarding experience that can add flavor and health benefits to your life.

Propagating mint typically involves taking stem cuttings from an existing mint plant and rooting them in water or soil. This method allows you to create new plants from a parent plant and can be a cost-effective way to expand your mint garden. Mint is a hardy plant that is easy to propagate, making it a popular choice for home gardeners.

Here's a peek at my garden in June 2023!

The beginning of June was super dry & hot here. We went for an absurd amount of time without rain. Even though I was watering twice daily, the ground was still dry.

Finally, we got some rain & my plants took off! The scorching heat subsided, providing some much-needed relief for my thirsty plants.

This year, I planted tomatoes, peppers, corn & herbs.

I chose varieties with a short growing season for the tomatoes & corn. I want two determinate tomatoes growing "seasons" this year, so we'll see.

You may be surprised that I have tomatoes & peppers coming already. That's what happens when I can't wait & start seeds in January/February!

I'm still hoping to get in some pumpkins. I saved pumpkin seeds last year & I want to see if they'll grow this year.

It's so funny to look back on my gardening journey. I've been doing this for 7 years now & it's incredible how far I've come. I started with tiny garden boxes with plants I bought & almost killed. Now, I start my own plants from seeds & have thriving gardens!

Dollar Tree Gardening Supplies | on the creek blog // www.onthecreekblog.com
The best gardening supplies at Dollar Tree!

Dollar Tree has definitely shown up this year regarding gardening supplies & decor. With their affordable prices, you can easily create a beautiful & bountiful garden without breaking the bank.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Garden Planters: They have so many cute planters in various sizes. They even have terracotta pots, which I love!

Storage Containers: I will talk about using Dollar Tree storage containers as mini greenhouses until the end of time because I love them so much! They can also be used to store gardening supplies in the off-season. They're such a good value!

Gardening Gloves & Tools: I'm constantly losing my gardening gloves & tools, so Dollar Tree always provides inexpensive replacements! They even have full-sized rakes this year!

Theme Decor: Dollar Tree spring/gardening theme decor is super cute this year. They have little signs to paint & hang up. They also have galvanized signs too! I even saw some gardening-themed ceramic paintable items for the kiddos. I'll definitely be getting my son some crafty things for his Easter basket this year!

kids gardening supplies from Amazon | On The Creek Blog // www.onthecreekblog.com
My favorite kids gardening picks from Amazon!

I'm really trying to get my son, Braxton, into gardening this year.  I think gardening is an important & fun skill to learn.

I've talked before about my love for Mind & Soil & the mental health benefits of gardening.  I know I get a lot of stress relief from gardening & it's just so fun to me!  I hope I can pass some of that along to Braxton.  He's still pretty young so he needs a lot of behind the scenes help from me to get his plants going but he's getting there!

This year we seed started zinnias for B & they're doing way better than expected.  It's only been a few days but they're already coming up!  It's looking like a good year for zinnias!  We're planning on putting them in his kids garden bed.  I'm looking forward to beautiful blooms all summer long!

This is my first year seed starting flowers & I didn't know what to expect.  I was pleasantly surprised when it did so well.  Now I want to seed start all the flowers!

Before writing this post, I didn't really think kids gardening was a thing.  I figured I'd go on Amazon & struggle to find a couple things.  But...gardening with kids is totally a thing!

the ultimate guide to growing pumpkins & free Burpee pumpkin guide | On The Creek Blog // www.onthecreekblog.com

The ultimate guide to growing pumpkins!  Plus a free Burpee pumpkin guide!

I was super excited last summer when we had a few volunteer pumpkins come up.  I love decorating with pumpkins in the fall & homegrown pumpkins are the best!

I was then super disappointed when the pumpkin vines died early on & never produced a single pumpkin!

I know it's early, but I'm determined to grow pumpkins next year!

I'm always looking ahead & planning for next year's garden.  Adding to the excitement is that Burpee released their 2022 catalog already!
