Spring Yard Walk 2020

White lilac // spring yard walk | On The Creek Blog
Come with me as I look over the various plants in our yard & see how they're doing after the winter!

It's time for my annual spring yard walk!

Come along with me as we tour my yard & see how the perennial plants are doing this spring!

This spring has been weird.  There were a couple late frosts & overall, everything was super late coming over here.

I've said this in my last yard walk, but I'm certain everything comes up just a little bit slower over here.  My lilacs haven't even flowered yet!

Here are the plants & how they're doing this year:

Hosta Plants
The Hosta plants are small, but thriving.  There's one area that hasn't even gotten its leaves yet!  Last year, the dog walked all over them again, but they're thriving.  There is one plant that never came back but the rest are trying to come up!

Peonies
Our peonies never bloomed last year & they're getting a late start this year.  We have plastic down underneath our mulch so they were having a difficult time breaking through.  When we cut the plastic back, they came right up!  It might be too late for them to flower, but they're off to a good start!

Apple Trees
One of our apple trees is really blooming!  It has tons of blossoms so it should produce apples!  The other tree isn't as ambitious, but it has a blossom or two that might produce something!

Grapes
The grapes aren't looking so great this year.  There are a few promising areas, but they're not flowering out like last year.  We'll see what happens with them!  Last year, they never ended up producing anything.  I think the birds got to the grapes before they could even do anything.

White Lilacs
At this time last year, the white lilacs were already flowering out.  This year, not so much!  Everything looks good, but there are none of those white flowers yet!  Hopefully they will happen soon!

Purple Lilacs
The purple lilac bush is still hanging on.  Last year, a late frost ruined the top of it, but it's back in full force this year!  Well, except for the other half of it, which appears to be completely dead!  So, I guess one side is still in full force!

Roses
Our clearance roses died last year, so we bought new roses to plant in their place.  We bought 2 climbing roses & 2 regular rose bushes.  I'm sad to say that the regular rose bushes died...but the climbing roses are back!  They're starting off pretty good but I want to look into plant food for them so they'll do better.
Gladiola flowers coming up | On The Creek Blog
I mentioned last year that we planted a lot of bulbs & I'm starting to see them popping up everywhere!  They're super tiny right now, so I'll take more pictures of them as they get bigger!  But they're happening!

So that's the yard tour for the year!  It's still early, so I can't wait to see what the spring/summer has in store for these plants!
