A chair planter makeover!
Can you believe I got this chair planter out of the burn pile?!
Of course, it didn't look so great when I got it.
The thing
about chair planters is that they're exposed to the elements, so they fall apart rather quickly.
I've had to repair a couple chair planters this year after a windy day sent them across the yard at a rapid pace!
As for this chair planter, I got it from my mom. She had several chairs that had seen better days, so to the burn pile they went.
I saw some potential in this planter chair, so I dug it out of the pile & got to work on restoring it!
Here's what the chair looked like before:
It was super chippy & cute! It was also broken in a few places!
My husband glued it all back together. Once it was solid again, it was time to paint it!
I really loved the chippy look the chair already had but it was a little too chippy for my taste! I sanded down the planter chair the best I could before I painted it again.
For painting, I used the same technique as my
upcycled dining bench. I wanted to try out the crackle glaze again & this project was perfect to try it on!
First, I painted the entire thing a dark brown to mimic a wood look. The actual wood on the chair was super weathered looking, so I wanted to freshen it up a bit.

Once that was dry, I applied the crackle glaze & then the top color. I think it came out great! It looks super chippy & weathered while still being protected with new paint!

I applied a ton of crackle glaze because I wanted the cracking to really come through & it did! I didn't even have to do any sanding afterwards!
For the top coat of paint, I used the same outdoor paint we used
on our pergola. Hopefully the exterior paint will hold up for a while!
