A thrift store command center makeover using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint®!
I’ve been searching for a command center for our home.
That’s just a fancy way of saying I needed a place to put all of our keys & pens!
We had a small one but I wanted something more prominent so when I found this one at a thrift store, I knew it would be perfect.
Well…maybe.
The question was whether it would fit where I wanted it!
The thing that grinds my gears about this house is that there is hardly any wall space! I hate it! It’s all chopped up into little wall sections, making big furniture almost impossible! I’m always on the lookout for super tiny hutches & other furniture that won’t overtake the room but I’m at the point now where if it can somewhat fit into the room, it’s happening…
Like this command center! I just couldn’t pass it up because it was so cute! I love the little key holders! I also thought it was handmade, making it a one of a kind, which ended up not being true at all! I found the little ‘Made in China’ sticker on the back when I went to paint it. But any guilt I had for painting it went away! It ended up just barely fitting where I wanted it. Like, it probably shouldn’t be there because it’s kind of overpowering, but it’s wedged in there now, so moving it would be a chore!
As I’ve told you before, I have a lot of leftover Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® in Country Grey from my failed kitchen cabinet painting attempt, so that’s what I used on this project. My husband spray painted the key holders so they look new again. I love the Country Grey with the black key holders! It gives the command center such a farmhouse feel!
I decided to paint the command center because it was in rough shape to begin with & I just like to paint everything! As you can tell, I’m not a purist when it comes to painting furniture! I do generally try to pick mass produced pieces to paint because they’re not the highest quality to begin with. I really hesitate when it comes to painting antiques. I usually just avoid them altogether because I don’t want to be that person to paint a quality antique piece, but, if it’s an antique piece & it’s falling apart to the point where it should be in the trash, it’s getting painted & nailed back together!
But…back to the command center! I love the deep pockets! When I took these pictures, I just shoved all of my pens down & it hid them perfectly! There’s so much storage! It’s perfect for all of our bills! Haha!
