A Solar Chandelier For The Pergola

A solar powered chandelier for the pergola!

When we built the pergola a couple months ago, I knew I wanted to add a chandelier.

It took a while to find a chandelier but I finally found one over the weekend at a yard sale.

It was also super cheap which is a win every time!

I wanted to give it just a little makeover before I put it outside.  I wanted to keep the rustic look, so I did very little in the makeover department.

Here's what it looked like before I started the makeover:

As you can tell, it was super dark!  Because I was going for the rustic look, I focused on just painting the middle (wood) part.  I left the metal parts that go out to the lights alone.

Because there was so very little to paint, this project ended up being the easiest project I've done in a long time!  I went with the crackle method once again.  It was super easy to apply the crackle glaze because there wasn't a lot of area to apply it on.

I put the crackle glaze on super thick & waited until it was tacky to paint over it.  The crackle glaze did its magic & it looks so cool!

Now for the solar lights!

I just picked up a few cheap solar lights from Dollar General.  Because the solar lights wouldn't fit on their own into the existing light spots, I had to get creative.  We ended up using hot glue for  I'm not sure how well it will be long term, but right now it's holding together.

It proved to be difficult to find the best place to hang the chandelier on the pergola!  I wanted it put up high, but if we did that, you really couldn't see the chandelier!  We ended up just shortening the chain to almost nothing & hanging it on the lowest area right inside the pergola.  Although it's not the most practical place for the chandelier, at least it's visible!
