Some thoughts on the 2019 garden.
I was super disappointed going into the garden this year.
Last year, I made plans to construct a more permanent garden area. I was going for perfect raised beds & a cute shed/greenhouse area.
By the time this year rolled around, I was pretty much over the entire gardening thing. After watching my garden turn into a complete disaster last year, it was up in the air if I was even going to attempt a garden, let alone perfect raised beds!
I finally made up my mind at the last minute to continue with a garden this year.

Once it was decided a garden was happening, I wanted to keep it small. I was hoping to do only 4 tomato plants & 4 pepper plants in my old
raised garden beds & whatever would grow from last year & a few new things in my
big railroad tie bed. I wasn't planning on using the large bed at my main garden area this year.
Then I went to the local greenhouse.

I quickly found out that tomatoes & peppers came in packs of 3. Well, that messed up my plans! I decided I could put the excess in my large bed, so it wasn't a big deal. My plan could still work!
After picking out things for the large bed, I was still confident I still would be using the large bed & 2 smaller raised beds.
Then I started planting.
After everything was planted in the large bed, there was just enough room for the tomatoes & peppers. I could still use my smaller raised beds or just plant everything in the large bed.
I went with planting everything in the large bed!
I'll say right now that I'm super skeptical of the large raised bed. I think it has a lot to do with our garden failures last year. I don't think the soil situation was quite right. We also put dark plastic at the bottom of the bed & along with the soil, I think it burned the plants. We did add more soil to the large bed this year, but I'm still not sure if it was enough. I guess I'll have to wait & see!
