Chippy & Rustic Heart Candle Holder
A heart candle holder gets a chippy & rustic makeover using chalk paint!
As I mentioned before, I’m hoping to get a few pieces together to sell at our annual yard sale.
I have the tendency to take things to the limits, which is me basically saying that I take on these huge projects with varying results! Even though I really wanted to do all the things for this little sale, I had to reign it in quite a bit. I didn’t want to get burnt out before I even began!
So this time, I started small. I picked up this heart candle holder at a thrift store & I thought it was just the cutest thing! I try to go for unique pieces & this definitely fit what I was looking for!
Once again, I headed down to the basement & got to work!
I have to say that my little basement workshop is the best! Since I’m used to working off the kitchen table, it’s so nice to be able to start things & then leave the mess until everything is complete! I also have more room to start multiple projects, so I can multitask while on is drying!
Here’s a very messy photo of my current situation:
That’s enough with my mess, let’s get back to the candle holder!
Once again, I painted this piece with Folk Art Chalk paint in White Adirondack.
Then it was time to distress!
I took some 60 grit sandpaper & got to work! I went around each heart & started sanding away! I’m a huge fan of distressed edges, so I did that a lot. Then I started sanding over the main pieces too. It turned out a million times better than I was expecting! The distressing was getting in all the right places to create a rustic & chippy look! After I was satisfied with the distressing, I used Annie Sloan Clear Chalk Paint Wax to cover the entire piece.
I was super happy with how it turned out! It ended up being way better than I thought it would! I like the candle holder so much that I’m tempted to keep it for myself! I might have to get some candles & display it in my home until it’s time to sell it!
