AI-generated art of a classic oil painting with a whimsical Casper-like ghost, created using Clip Drop. | on the creek blog // www.onthecreekblog.com

Hey, Besties!

I've been diving into AI-generated art lately. Let me tell you, it's like having a personal artist who can

You know how there's this adorable trend of taking old thrift store paintings and adding little ghosts to them? Well, I was so tempted to jump on that bandwagon, but two things stopped me:

  1. My painting skills are, let's say, more abstract than accurate.
  2. I didn't want to limit that beautiful old art to just the Halloween season.

So, what's a creative soul to do? Enter the magical world of AI art!

Unleashing My Inner Artist with Clip Drop

I've been diving into AI-generated art lately. Let me tell you, it's like having a personal artist who can bring even the quirkiest ideas in my brain to life. I used Clip Drop and gave it my best description of what I envisioned—a Casper-meets-classic-oil-painting vibe. And guess what? The AI totally nailed it!

The AI Masterpieces

Here are the stunning pieces it conjured up:

Pumpkin carving 2021!

We're back again this year with the pumpkin carving!  (Here's a peek at last year's pumpkins!) We had a lot of fun again this year carving pumpkins.

I even carved my own pumpkin this year!  We received some pumpkin carving supplies at a trunk or treat we went to & I could totally tell the difference with carving!  We normally just use knives & they are so difficult for me to cut with.  Having the right supplies helped me out so much.  (If you're still in need of supplies, I wrote a blog post with all my Amazon picks for carving!)  I also chose a small pumpkin so my carving was super easy!

Our kiddo drew out his design & my mom cut it out for him again this year. My mom managed to get her own pumpkin carved out this year.  She missed out on carving last year because she was carving our kiddo's pumpkin.

Dollar Tree ghosts transformed with driveway markers, floating gracefully in a yard, adding a whimsical touch to Halloween decor. | on the creek blog // www.onthecreekblog.com

Hey, Besties!

Are you in the mood to elevate your Halloween decor game? If so, you're in for a treat—or should I say, trick? Today, I'm sharing our hauntingly clever Dollar Tree Ghost Hack that took our Halloween landscape to the next level!

The Backstory: A Ghostly Dilemma

I discovered these irresistibly cute ghost decorations at Dollar Tree a few years back. Budget-friendly and oozing with Halloween charm, they seemed perfect. But hanging them up? That was a whole different story.

The Challenge: Ghosts on Strings? Not So Easy!

We initially tried to hang these adorable ghosts using strings, but let's just say it was more trick than treat. After several years in storage, we brought these spectral friends back to life.

The Solution: A Driveway Marker Makeover

Enter my ingenious husband, who had a brilliant idea. Why not use a driveway marker as the spine for our ghosts? It was a simple yet game-changing solution.

How We Did it:

  1. Insert the driveway marker into the Styrofoam head concealed beneath the ghost's fabric.
  2. Gently drape the fabric back around the ghost.

The Result: Ghosts with Personality!

With their new "spines," our ghosts took on a life of their own. They billowed and flowed in the wind, adding an extra layer of spookiness to our Halloween decor.

A Minor Hiccup: Windy Woes

We did face a small challenge: strong gusts occasionally caused the fabric to slip. But no worries—our setup ensured our ghosts stayed put!

Final Thoughts

Our Dollar Tree Ghost Hack was a hauntingly successful venture, and we couldn't be happier with the results. So, if you want to add some extra spook to your Halloween, try this hack!

Pumpkin carving 2020!

For the first time in forever, we carved pumpkins for Halloween!

This is the first year we've had a kiddo in our house for Halloween.

He's been super excited about Halloween for weeks!  He's been counting down the days until his class party & actual Halloween.

To celebrate, we carved pumpkins last weekend.  Our kiddo drew out his pumpkin face & my mom carved it out.  He also drew on all sides of another pumpkin & my mom cut all the sides out!  My mom didn't even get a chance to carve her own pumpkin!

'Resting Witch Face' free printable & canvas art | On The Creek Blog // www.onthecreekblog.com

Download a free ‘Resting Witch Face’ printable & check out the canvas I made!

With Halloween being only 2 days away, I thought I’d sneak in one more Halloween free printable!

I’m having so much fun creating this mixed media canvas art & I love how this one turned out!  As you can tell, I’m keeping it simple for now.  I’m not comfortable enough to tackle more advanced projects just yet!

This was the last canvas I created using the materials I already had on hand.  I created the black canvas background some time ago, so all I had to do was finish it & add my letters.  I found a gold paint pen for the letters & finished it off with a coat of Mod Podge.

Just here for the boos -- Free Printable | On The Creek Blog // www.onthecreekblog.com

I’m just here for the boos!  Download the free printable & check out the canvas art I made!

So…here’s the thing:

I’m not an artist.

As much as I want to, I’ll never be someone who creates magnificent art.  I try to be proficient at a lot of different art types, but I don’t think I’ll ever be super great at anything. I love to experiment with different art, though!

Here’s something weird about me:  I like to do something to the max for a while & then completely abandon it.  Like I’ll eat the same meal for days & then wait months & months before I’ll have it again.

Costume or Not, Here I Come!

So, guess what? I got Halloween night off work—talk about a last-minute treat! Looks like my festive Halloween tee is doubling as my costume this year. Hey, it's the spirit that counts, right?

Treat Bags on the Fly

James and I went into full-on treat bag assembly mode when we found out I'd be home. It's our first Halloween in the new place, so we're unsure how many little ghouls and goblins will appear. But let's be real—I'm secretly hoping to snag a bag or two of candy for myself!

A Punch Bowl's Second Act

P.S. Our "candy bowl" is actually a punch bowl I scored at the ReStore last week. Talk about repurposing!
