Chippy Yellow Chair

A bright & chippy makeover for a cute little chair!

There was a cute little chair left over from our recent yard sale.

Priced at only $2, I was super surprised no one took it home with them!

It was most likely because it looked like this:

Old & busted!

Sometimes it takes a lot to see the potential in something!

The thing about me is that I’m super weird & love all things old & busted.  The older & more busted the better!  I've hauled home many items that had no business being brought home!

My husband hates it when I bring these types of furniture pieces home.  It’s probably because he’s the one helping me with the repairs!  But we always seem to bring things back from the brink of going in the dumpster!

This chair didn’t look too bad, though, so I brought it back home so I could give it a proper makeover!

First, I wanted to remove the broken seat area.

I wasn’t sure how the seat part was connected to the chair.  I thought I might have to cut it out or dismantle something to get that piece out of the chair.  Luckily, it came right out when I started pulling on it.  No special tools required!

Then it was time for paint.

A few months ago, I got a super good deal on paint.  One of my favorite hardware stores was having a huge sale on paint & I was there for it!  One of the colors I got was Cork Board in Dutch Boy paint & I thought it would look cute on this chair!

The plan was to paint the chair in a solid color with very little distressing, if any.  Once I gave the chair one coat of paint, I began using my sanding sponge to try to flatten down the paint a little to prep it for another coat of paint.  I ended up falling in love with how chippy the chair was becoming & decided to leave it!  The only additional thing I did was add a little bit of paint to the areas I distressed too much!

Once everything was dry, I sealed the chair with 2 coats of Polycrylic & that’s it!  I love how the chair looks super old & chippy even though I just painted it!

I’m looking forward to putting flowers in it this fall!

I’m also loving the Cork Board paint!  I can see myself using that color on quite a few things in the future!  It’s just so cheery!

This little chair has reignited my furniture refreshing hobby!  Now I want to paint all the things!  As always, I’ll be taking you all along with me!
