ReStore Hutch + I Need Your Help!

Red hutch from the Habitat For Humanity ReStore!

Check out my awesome Habitat For Humanity ReStore cabinet & help me decide what to do with it!

As I looked through my archives, I realized I never talked about this red hutch.

Living room furniture from the Habitat For Humanity ReStore!

It was one of our many Habitat For Humanity ReStore finds!  I never specifically mentioned it, but I did find a picture of it in one of my ReStore finds posts (The picture above!)!  It’s a cute little hutch that fit perfectly in the corner of our living room.  When we bought different furniture last spring, it was moved flat up against the wall to make room for our bigger furniture.  So it has pretty much been in the same area for almost 3 years…

Until last weekend.  I got this crazy idea to move it to a spot by our front doors.  Here’s another outdated picture of where I moved it:

Since that picture was taken, I have actually painted that hutch!  It’s a pretty blue now with new pulls!  Anyway, I wanted something different, so I decided to move that hutch & put my little red hutch there.

Here’s the current situation:

As you can tell, this hutch is in less than desirable shape.  It’s missing some pieces & is scuffed up pretty bad.  There’s also random paint debris stuck on there from who knows where!  I like the red color, but it’s kind of dated & ugly to me at the same time.  I really want to paint it, but I have a dilemma!

This is where you come in!

What color should I paint this hutch?!  I usually have an idea of where to at least start but I’m hitting a major wall with this one!  It’s so dark in that corner of the house that I really want to paint it a bright color, but it has those frames in the glass that look like they’ll be a pain to mess with & paint, so maybe I should paint it dark?!  Or, I could just remove the frames, try to paint them or just get rid of them & paint it whatever?!  I’m also thinking about distressing it, so maybe I want to go with a color that will look good distressed with red showing through?  And what color would that even be?

As you can tell, I have no idea what to do!  I’m in desperate need of ideas!  Please give me your suggestions!
