A guide on distressing techniques to use on furniture & other projects | On The Creek Blog // www.onthecreekblog.com

How to distress painted furniture.

After all the projects I've done, I can't believe I've never written a post on how to distress furniture!  I have mentioned my techniques a lot but I have never made a post dedicated just to distressing furniture.

That's what I'm going to be doing today!

Distressing furniture is an easy process to make furniture look old & worn.

Why do I need to distress furniture?

I usually end up with the worst of the worst furniture where preserving old paint is impossible.  Most of the pieces I deal with are either not painted at all or the paint is usually mostly gone.  While distressing furniture takes off the paint, I still like to have some paint on the pieces.

Also, I like to make furniture pieces appear old.  It's a lot cheaper for me to buy junk pieces & transform them myself than to buy authentic old furniture.  I also get nervous around old furniture/investment pieces.  I'm afraid it will scuff or break & I'll lose out on my investment.

An update on James' melanoma | On The Creek Blog // www.onthecreekblog.com
An update on my husband's cancer diagnosis.

- Update #1

This is not the update I expected to give.

After James had surgery in August, things were looking up.  His huge cancer mass was gone & we were looking to the future.

Because James has a BRAF mutation, the risk of his cancer coming back is very high.  To combat this, he was going to start immunotherapy.  There is a clinical trial involving immunotherapy that the doctors thought James would be a good candidate for.  In preparation for the clinical trial, James had to do all new scans.  If he wasn't going for the clinical trial, the scans would have been 3 months after surgery.

Sunday stuff #1

This post contains affiliate links

I'm starting a new series on my blog called 'Sunday Stuff'!  It will be about random things going on in my life.  I'm not sure if I'm going to post weekly or biweekly but I'll work it out!

- I have been really focusing on my blog lately!  It has really helped me stay distracted during my husband's cancer journey.  I have a post coming up tomorrow that talks about the new developments.  I'm trying to stay strong but I'm under a lot of stress.  I feel like blogging has been a good outlet for me.

There are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes with my blog.  I've started monetizing my blog a bit so I'm learning how to do all of that.  I want to write a blog series about everything that goes on because it's a lot!
