Assortment of festive gifts from Dollar Tree for the '12 Days of Christmas' tradition, including coloring books, candy, and gingerbread kits. | on the creek blog // www.onthecreekblog.com

Hey Besties! 🌟 Today, I'm sharing a little piece of our family's holiday magic. We started a '12 Days of Christmas' tradition during our son's first Christmas with us. It's all about opening a small gift each night leading up to the big day. 🎁✨

Rediscovering Joy at Dollar Tree

Life's been a wild ride these past couple of years. With everything that 2021 and 2022 threw our way, some traditions took a back seat. But last week, as I wandered through the aisles of Dollar Tree, I felt that old spark of holiday excitement reignite. The shelves were brimming with adorable little treasures, perfect for bringing back our 12 Days of Christmas!

A Treasure Trove of Gifts

Dollar Tree is like a wonderland for stocking stuffers and cute finds. Here's a sneak peek at what I picked up:
  • Creative coloring and activity kits and books for those cozy art sessions.
  • A sweet array of candies because, well, it's Christmas!
  • Gingerbread house and cookie kits for some festive baking fun. 🍪🏠

The Heart of Our Holiday

I can't tell you how much I adore this tradition. It's not just about the gifts; it's about the anticipation, the nightly ritual of togetherness, and watching our son's eyes light up with each surprise. These moments weave the magic of the season into our hearts. 💖

I'm so excited to restart this tradition and share the joy of the season with our little one. It's a beautiful reminder of the love and warmth that fills our home, especially during the holidays.

Stay tuned for more festive fun and holiday DIYs as we count down to Christmas! 🌟🎄

5 ways to display kitchen cabinet wreaths | On The Creek Blog // www.onthecreekblog.com

5 different ways to display Christmas wreaths in the kitchen!

After my post last week about Kitchen Christmas decor, I started thinking about all of the ways to display Christmas wreaths in the kitchen.  I had a few of these Dollar Tree wreaths, so I decided to do a little photo shoot with them!  I came up with 5 different ways to display the wreaths & I’ll be highlighting them below…so let’s get started!

We finally got our second tree decorated!

Christmas Tree Ornament

The tree is from the Habitat For Humanity ReStore and the ornaments are from Home Depot.  We bought two sets of 100 each and they all don’t even fit on the tree!

Because we have zero tree decorating experience, we kept it simple this year with just the ornaments, tinsel and some beads.  We still need a tree topper.

Here’s a view of the tree at night:

Aaand it’s Christmas time!  In the past 9 years, we’ve put up our tree maybe 5 times.  Most of those times also involved throwing it up like a few days before Christmas.  This year, we already have our old tree up in the loft area and are going to pick up our Habitat ReStore tree this weekend to put up downstairs.  We’ve bought stockings for the fireplace and put up wreaths on the door. I honestly don’t know who we are anymore!  Before this year, our Christmas decorations literally consisted of that tree and one bag of ornaments.  I’m just excited to actually have room to put things up and store things until next year!  Our old place was so small and had absolutely zero storage.  This year, we bought a 9ft Christmas tree!

We’re also hosting Christmas this year for my parents.  It’s going to be overwhelming and fun at the same time.  I’ve never made Christmas dinner before so I’m totally unprepared!  I should’ve taken better notes at Thanksgiving dinner!  What recipes should I make?  Are cold cut turkey breast sandwiches out of the question?!
