Beadboard Kitchen Backsplash

A beadboard kitchen backsplash at the Kay House Renovation!

We decided to keep the backsplash simple for the Kay House Reno.

Well…that’s not completely true.

Because I’m extra, you know I had super grand plans for the backsplash.  I was originally thinking an awesome German schmear backsplash.  I saw Amy’s kitchen renovation & MB’s house exterior using German schmear & I was pretty much here for it!

But, because of time constraints (we all just really want to be done with the house so we can work on our own houses!), we decided on something a little easier & less time intensive.

I love the farmhouse look of beadboard & I knew it would go perfectly with the freshly painted cabinets.

I also suggested that my parents buy smaller panels of bead board because it would be soo much easier to work with.  The thought of cutting a huge piece of paneling sounded so tedious, so we ended up with the smaller pieces!

The pieces they picked out were already primed so I gave them a coat of the same paint we used on the cabinets.

Once they were dry, my parents installed them using finishing nails & staples.  We then made any touch ups to the paint after the beadboard was on the wall.

As for the trim, my parents used some trim they picked up at a surplus warehouse for super cheap. You can’t see it in these pictures, but the kitchen flooring is gray, so the trim kind of brings that all together.

I feel like paneling is a good beginner way to do a kitchen backsplash!

I may even attempt it on my own kitchen, which doesn’t have a backsplash at all!  Because we live in a log home, we only have about 3 feet of drywall that we could do a backsplash on; the rest is up against the logs.  Right now, we just have painted drywall, but paneling would be an option there.  Maybe the German schmear?!
