I gave our entryway a simple makeover for early spring!
Our entryway is a tricky spot to decorate.
Because we use the front door as the main entry to our home, we keep our shoes & coats right by the door. It wasn’t always like this, though.
When we bought our home, the front doors weren’t accessible. There was a deck that led out of the doors, but no stairway to get in from outside. The previous owners came into the house through the side door. Once we purchased the house, we built stairs leading outside & the front door became our main entry. I’m sure the side door entry made sense at the time because of the old layout of the house, but when we switched the layout, a front door entry became more practical.
Entering through the front door can have its disadvantages, though! The main disadvantage for me is the clutter! I have to work shoes & coats into my decor! For this early spring entryway, I decided to keep it simple, with a bench & small springy decor touches.
Around Christmas time, we put our new/old cabinet in this space. While I liked it there at the time, I wanted a bench by the door. It just so happens that my husband & I are on a bed bench making kick, so we had a brand new bench ready & I wanted to put it by the door. We moved the cabinet to another wall (which I’ll show soon!), which opened up the space for the bench.
Once we put the bench there, it put everything else above it off center. (The picture above shows the before look with the bench & old decor on top.) I took that as an opportunity to update the space! I recently purchased the birdhouse shelf & I think it has the perfect spring vibes going on. I was thinking about painting it but decided to leave it for now.
I like having the calendar by the door so I can always see what we have going on for the month.
I think my favorite part is that I can shove the shoes underneath the bench! It makes them slightly less noticeable & I’m here for it!
Moving forward, I would eventually love to have a front porch that wraps around to the side door so our coats & things can go there! That still might be a while away though! I also thought about a large custom cabinet that can hide our things! But, I’ll work with the open concept for now!
