House Story

My husband and I have been looking at houses for our entire marriage. My husband used to work in home remodeling and I absolutely love neglected houses. Since the housing market crashed we've toured many houses that have seen severe neglect. When we began to get serious about actually buying a house, though, we didn't really see ourselves in a fixer upper. We wanted something that we could move right into and began saving up for our 20% down payment. We contacted banks and got mortgage rates and pre-approval letters...

Then we bought a foreclosure in a cash deal.

Some foreclosed houses are still very nice despite going through years of being uninhabited. Our house was not that lucky. We could tell that it had at least 3 feet of water in the basement in it at one time, which pretty much ruined the furnace and hot water tank. Our main pipes also burst from not being winterized. The floors are severely pet stained. There are about a million other things to do. It's going to take a lot of work to get this house back to being a home but it didn't seem like anything we couldn't do ourselves so that's why we decided to take on this project. I can't wait to see how it's going to turn out.
