Some spring thoughts & pics of lilac buds!
I was all set to sit down & write this post on Monday.
Then I looked outside.
At 45 degrees, it was far from spring vibes out there! I decided to shelf this post for a slightly warmer day. Like today.
Where I'm located, spring can be weird. You can think you're in the clear because it's been fairly warm outside, the birds are chirping & the trees start getting their buds.
But then the next day, it's snowy out & you have to wear a winter coat. April pretty much involves several seasons worth of clothing. It’s supposed to be 70+ degrees tomorrow, so I might even have to get my shorts out of storage!
Since I'm incredibly impatient, spring is the absolute worst for me. I want to get all the mulch & start digging up the garden, but then I have to wait because the ground is frozen all over again.
Last year, we actually did our mulch super early. That ended up being a terrible idea because the mulch ended up being super terrible. I don't know if it was the cold temps or the mulch itself, but it was an absolute mess. The mulch ended up being super dry & colorless. It was gross. It's actually still gross because we just went with it. Mulching our yard takes forever & we just didn't have it in us to do it all over again. I can't wait to get some fresh mulch this year, but I'll have to be slightly more patient so we don't make the same mistake again!
But you really can't blame me for being impatient! The trees are blooming, so it must be spring, right?!
These are some pics I took last week of the white lilac tree in our yard. It has since really come into bloom & I need to take more pics of its transformation, but here are the tiny buds in the meantime.
I was reading up on lilacs & found out the buds are predetermined in the fall before the lilac goes dormant for the winter. Talk about some serious pressure! Even though I want to be, I’m not really much of a planner!
I can't wait until the lilacs start flowering! I usually don't pick the flowers because I love walking outside & having the air filled with the wonderful lilac aroma but if there are so many this year, I might have to clip some & bring them inside!
I just love spring & the new beginnings it brings!
