Here are the tomato & pepper varieties we started from seeds this year!If you remember our seed starting adventures from last year, we just used some random seeds we already had.
Since I was buying new seeds this year, I was a little more selective in my varieties. I toned it down quite a bit too--I only chose 3 tomato varieties this year!
I also started peppers from seed this year so I picked out 2 varieties of peppers.
I spent quite a while browsing the Burpee website in search of the perfect seeds before I made my purchase.
Here's what I ended up with:
Pepper Varieties
-
California Wonder : I chose this variety because they make good stuffing peppers & have a great flavor.
-
Bull Nosed Large Bell : I chose these because of their sweet taste. Plus, they were grown in Thomas Jefferson's garden!
Tomato Varieties
-
Roma VF : I planted these last year & had great success with them so I went with them again this year. They're a great paste tomato.
-
SuperSauce : This is a fun one for me! These are sauce tomatoes that get to be 2lbs! One tomato is supposed to fill an entire sauce jar. I can't wait to see how these do in the garden!
-
Big Mama : These are also a larger paste tomato.
I plan on making a few jars of pasta sauce again this year so I wanted all sauce varieties of tomatoes.
I've said it before, but I love the freedom that comes with seed starting. I love to be able to choose what varieties I want to plant & be there from the very beginning!
