I love thrift stores!
This is a story for another day, but I’m an aspiring furniture flipper. Without getting into it too much, I’ll just say that I’ve been to thrift stores A LOT lately! I love finding all the unique things to hopefully resell. The problem is I want to keep everything for myself!
When I was at the thrift store over the weekend, I came across this little cabinet. It was priced a little high for flipping so I almost walked away from it. Then I started to think about if I could use it somewhere in my house. I don’t mind spending a little more if I’m going to personally use an item.
I eventually talked myself into making it into a coffee cabinet. The little hooks on the bottom would be perfect for mugs. The cabinet above could store all the coffee supplies. We’re having a major organizational problem with our coffee/tea supplies right now. This little cabinet just might solve it!
So I bought the cabinet!
I thought the cabinet was cute, but a little plain. I like to take things to the limits & I wanted to do that with this cabinet! I took it to my basement workshop & got to work!
I started by repairing one of the hooks because it was loose. A little glue did the trick!
Next, I removed the cabinet door & its hardware.
Then it was time for paint! I picked up a gallon of clearance paint a couple months ago & it has been my go-to paint! I’ve painted so many things with this paint! It’s supposed to be a gray, but I think it looks like more of a warm white. I’m absolutely in love with it! I’m sure you’ll be seeing many things painted this color!
I kept layering on the paint until the cabinet was fully covered. Then it was time for distressing!
While the paint was still tacky, I took my sanding sponge & distressed the edges. It’s so much easier to distress when the paint is still a little wet. It’s also easy to get carried away & end up distressing way too much because the paint isn’t fully dry! That’s an easy fix though—just add more paint to overly distressed areas!
This project didn’t take very long to complete & that’s my absolute favorite kind of projects! My attention span is seriously lacking sometimes so if I can get a project done quickly, I’m ecstatic!
For now, I just put the old hardware back on. I’m not a huge fan of the knob, so I’ll probably change it out later!
I think it turned out super cute! I can’t wait to style it in my kitchen!
