One of my major fixations lately has been our dining room table.
We bought our dining room table last year at a yard sale. We love it because it’s on the slightly smaller side so it fits better in our smaller dining room. There’s nothing wrong with the table itself.
The problem is the chairs.
We currently have 6 chairs jammed around the table & I hate it! The chairs don’t fit properly & it’s always a struggle to get them all around without looking cluttered. I like having all the chairs pushed all the way underneath the table. Our current chair situation makes that impossible. Depending on what chair gets pushed in first, there are always one or two that stick way out. I’m sure it’s not a big deal, but I always think it looks weird to have the chairs way out like that.
My solution to this problem is to put two dining benches underneath the table.
(The easier solution would be to remove two chairs! I’m not the type of person to take the easy way, though!)
I think benches will give the table a more streamlined look so I set off to find some dining benches!
In my dining bench quest, I found out two things:
1. Dining Benches are expensive!
I never realized how expensive dining benches are! You know I’m a thrift shopper, so the price of brand new dining benches astounded me! I wanted to buy new because the odds of finding two dining benches at a thrift store are kind of impossible!
2. I’m super particular about the dining bench I want.
I want a certain style of dining bench & I was not finding it at all! I’m planning on painting the dining table, so I wanted a bench I could easily paint as well. So I really wanted a super plain bench. Also, with our table being on the smaller side, I was having a difficult time finding a bench that fit underneath it! I didn’t want to have the same problem I was having with the chairs, where it wasn’t fitting comfortably underneath.
I never realized having a dining bench would turn into such an ordeal!
While I still don’t have a dining bench, we recently took a step in the right direction! Check out tomorrow’s blog post to see what we did & our plans moving forward!
