Some Thoughts On Blogging

I mainly wrote this for readers of my last blog because I wanted to give them an explanation as to why I changed blogs. My old domain name is getting ready to expire so I didn't want to leave those readers in the dark as to what's going on in my life. It also gives you a little background on my blogging history.

I've been lifestyle blogging in some form or another for probably 15 years. When I first started sharing my thoughts with the interwebs, I was a teenager with all the feels in the world. When I was in my early twenties, Twitter became popular and I used it to tweet at my favorite singers and was so excited when I got a response from them. I continued lifestyle blogging during that time and, for the last two years or so, I was blogging fairly regularly. Toward the end of that blog, I found myself trying to dig for content and came to the realization that lifestyle blogging wasn't for me anymore. I've become immensely private in the last year, so the thought of writing about my daily life is cringe-worthy for me. There are some things I want to share, but the idea of sharing personal stories five days a week was absolutely horrifying. I also stopped sharing on social media because, sometimes, even 140 characters is too personal for me.

When we bought our house and I started writing this blog, I fell in love with it. I saw that there were other things to write about instead of being overly personal. I found that I could write better when I distanced myself. Sure, this blog is about me, but the focus is on the things that I'm doing and not directly on me so much. If I had to do one more weekend recap, I was going to hide away forever! I also don't struggle for content as much because I don't have to sit there and over-analyze if something is too personal to share. My journey in blogging has come a long way and I'm excited to be blogging here at On The Creek.
